Happy Friday! It was a late night for this gal so I’m especially looking forward to the weekend. But not before I regale you with some of the good things I read this week.
1 – Great bookshops. There is just something about a bookstore that feels like home to me. It probably started when I was small and my father used to take me to choose a book. When I first went away to college, Avenue Victor Hugo was a haven for this homesick kid. Lazing cats and rare books in a tiny shop made being away from home a bit better.
2 – Hikes with shelter dogs. This shelter in Utah offers guided hikes with adoptable pups. Exercise, fresh air, love for homeless animals: what’s not to like? We should be creating programs like this everywhere! Now, go love your pet. Or better yet, go adopt a pet!
3 – Ina Garten. Because Ina. I can’t tell you how many times I hear people say, “I want to be invited to Ina’s for dinner!” Everyone loves Ina. I do disagree with her oatmeal cooking method but everything else is top notch. And how cute are she and Jeffrey?
4 – How desks have changed… Here is a slightly horrifying yet fascinating look at how our work space has changed in the past 30 years. Am I the only one who still keeps a paper calendar?!
5 – Jan Hooks. Jan was part of a “sweet spot” of Saturday Night Live in the late 1980s. Sadly, she left this world last week at the young age of 57. Yahoo has a channel with a number of Jan’s greatest hits from her SNL days. I highly recommend the touching piece she and Phil Hartman did called Life is a Dream to experience the beauty of both performers. For a good laugh, watch the Sinatra Group…unfortunately they don’t have any Sweeney Sisters! Her partner in song, Nora Dunn, pens a lovely tribute to her “sister”.
Have a great weekend everyone!
