This juicy little number comes from Portugal. Come have a taste, won’t you?
Grown on the sun-filled hillsides of the Casa Santos Lima estate, about 25 miles north of the capital of Lisbon, this everyday red is a blend of four Portuguese varietals: Camarate and Castelâo, Touriga Nacional and Trincadeira.
This 2012 red blend bears likeness to a Pinot Noir: medium-bodied, juicy and a bit tangy. Lovely aromatics on the nose: cinnamon and vanilla with a hint of pepper. It’s different on the palate though: Juicy and fruity with refreshing and enjoyable red fruits like raspberry and brambly jam. Finishes smoothly with a bit of white pepper and licorice.
This is an excellent every day drinkable red that costs just under $10. Hard to beat this quality for the price! As a medium-bodied red with no overpowering flavors, this would pair nicely with many dishes, especially alongside a tapas menu. Haven’t tried Portuguese wine yet? You’re in for a pleasant surprise! Enjoy!
