Happy Wine Wednesday! The gorgeous aroma of this New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc stopped me in my tracks. Heavenly. August will be even better with this in my glass!
Loveblock Farm and vineyards overlook Marlborough’s famed Awatere Valley. With an ardent desire to grow as sustainable and organically a grape as possible, one sip tells you these are well-tended vines. It isn’t surprising when you learn this is the latest project from New Zealand winemaker Kim Crawford, founded by wife Erica; They continually make considerable, high-quality wine almost in their sleep.
That gorgeous aroma is both tropical and floral: kiwi and passion fruit with a mere trace of jasmine. How lovely! No brassy citrus to hit you over the head. None, in fact. In order to diffuse that quality, a small amount of wine goes through both natural and malolactic fermentation. Those delicious and juicy fruit flavors continue on the palate with a hint of grassiness and a smidgen of grapefruit. This is a lighter, more textured Sauvignon Blanc without those bold citrus flavors. Crisp and refreshing, this 2013 wine will make you dance a little in your seat. Enjoy!
