Picture dozens of model trains whizzing around New York’s most famous landmarks: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Yankee Stadium, over the Brooklyn Bridge, around skyscrapers and back north to the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Welcome to the 22nd Annual Holiday Train Show at The New York Botanical Garden!
As if New York doesn’t have enough holiday displays and traditions to enjoy, add this one to your list. Using natural elements collected from the gardens themselves: bark, twigs and sticks, as well as fruits, seeds and pine cones of all sizes, they have created a natural wonderland. The trains travel over bridges and through tunnels all over the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.
Many of New York’s quaint and historic brownstones are recreated as well as some of the most opulent sites like City Hall and the old Pennsylvania Train Station.
They offer Bar Car Nights for adults and don’t forget to take a stroll through the garden when you’re done. The Christmas tree display near the shop shouldn’t be missed (great photo opportunity!) as well as the Children’s Garden where activities are set up for the young conductor and Thomas the Tank Engine shows!
The NYBG Holiday Train Show runs between November 16 and January 12. Tickets are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors/students, and $15 for children 2-12.
Reservations are strongly recommended as tickets do sell out (especially on weekends). Tickets are timed and sold in 15 minute increments.
