Hello and Happy Friday! Before you head out to soak up those last bits of summer sun, here’s what I’ve been reading this week:
Food: Today is National Potato Day in Ireland! I often joke that I am made of about 75% potatoes. (Cereal and peanut butter and jelly making up the rest.) Even this lovely French woman in Ireland is hooked on those dirty little spuds.
Wine: Ten little-known Napa Valley wineries you should know!
Travel: Take a stunning aerial tour of the Arctic with NASA.
Books: Elmore Leonard has ten simple rules for writing. “Try to leave out the parts that readers tend to skip.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. However, he and Elaine may not have agreed on exclamation points…
Writing: Brilliance. Personified. How to be a better writer: stop using “thought” verbs. I dare you.
Film: A whole lot of Hitchcock. Illustrated. Are you as obsessed as old Hitch?
Animals: Bless these children. Save the pufflings! So sweet.
People: Sometimes love happens again.
NYC: Democratic Mayoral hopeful Bill de Blasio is a Red Sox fan. *zips lip*
Health: Need help sticking to a diet/plan? How about an automated nutritionist?
Media: The New Inquiry may be the future of small magazines.
And from The Fiery Redhead this week…
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Tomato season! A new favorite was made…Cool and Spicy Gazpacho.
Can you say Grüner Veltliner? Don’t worry, I’ll teach you. Thoroughly enjoyed this refreshing and aromatic gem from Austria.
And the newest column on the blog, Color Inspired takes a look at the sunny shades of yellow!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
