Happy Wine Wednesday! Today’s wine is a summertime delight: fresh fruit, spice and a touch of sweetness! Hello Rosé season!
With notes of peach and strawberry on the nose, this 2010 Rosé is a classic Côtes de Provence pale salmon color. This is not a sweet Rosé but a touch of honey caresses the palate. Essence of strawberry fruit and white pepper make this a complex and supple wine. Diables, in French, means flavored with hot spices. In agreement, this is not a light wine! Evenly blended with 40% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 40% Cinsault, this makes a wonderful, if not devilish choice.
Côtes de Provence covers a wide swath: the French riviera (Côte d’Azur) to Nice. Almost all of the wine that comes from Provence is Rosé, nearly 80 percent due to the bountiful sun and hot growing conditions. Typically dry and full of fruit, one cannot go wrong with a Côtes de Provence Rosé! It goes well with all of the familiar summertime dishes like salads, sweet tomatoes and fruits and fresh Provençal specialties like seafood and olive oil.
Drink it young, drink it often, drink it tonight! Enjoy!
