Afternoon tea can be a rather civilized way to spend a few hours. Tea, sweet scones, tiny, tasty sandwiches and dear friends = sublime. Having tea at the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago is an experience everyone should enjoy.
Relaxing and warm, soft-colored decor and the soothing strains of live violin and piano welcome you to the main dining room. Open and airy, this is not a staid and stuffy afternoon tea service.
The Peninsula also offers both a vegetarian and gluten-free menu for their guests. Don’t expect simple cucumber sandwiches! Smoked salmon with lavender and Japanese eggplant on a Pullman bun are just a few of the choices. Apricot vanilla scones along side tiny chocolate mousse and lemon blueberry tarts are the perfect complement to their extensive loose tea menu.
Like the best tea services, they offer loose leaf green like Silver Jasmine and scented blacks like Mandarin Rose Petal, herbal infusions like Mint Melange and African Amber. Oolong, White and classics like Darjeeling and Earl Grey, Camomile and Chai round out the list.
Ooh, and those mint chocolate macaroons and the pretty panna cotta!
Perhaps a glass of champagne could make this even lovelier…so order that too! The staff at the Peninsula will make sure that you are perfectly sated, inside and out. Enjoy!
