Hey kids! Happy Wine Wednesday! As some of you are preparing for a little Valentine’s love tomorrow, here is a fabulous wine for you to try.
Made by top winemaker, Dave Phinney of Orin Swift in St. Helena, he has traveled to parts of Europe to source some of the finest grapes to create the aptly named “Locations“. There are two others, for now, from Spain (E), and Italy (I). This is the French (F) incarnation with Grenache from the Roussillon region on the border of Spain, Syrah from the Rhône region, and various Bordeaux varietals to create this fine red French wine.
This is a deeply aromatic wine with big sweet fruits like currant, berries and even lavender on the nose. You might wish you could wear it! Bright and rich fruit like cherry and more currant stay with you for a super smooth and long finish. The blend of Grenache and Syrah along with those other varietals were carefully chosen to cultivate this explosion of flavor. It continues to open beautifully showcasing that well-traveled terroir.
It’s interesting how difference in price can affect quality of wine. Depending on your personal price point, this may be too expensive at around $17-20 for an any night of the week wine. For some, this may your Friday night wine with dinner and a movie. This is a very high-quality and excellent wine for the price. If you can, splurge a little next Friday (or tomorrow!) and endeavor to France (your local wine shop) and ask for this gem. Enjoy!
