Happy Wine Wednesday! The 2009 Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Alexander Valley in Sonoma County. Known for lending a slightly cooler climate and terroir to its wines, the Alexander Valley gives the Napa Valley serious competition in the Cabernet arena.
There are definite notes of raspberry and blueberry on the nose. And the soft and balanced tannins lend to the smooth nature of this delightful and Bordeaux-like red wine. Light berry fruits, cocoa and a sprinkle of pepper finish off this splendid medium-bodied Cabernet.
Today’s wine is easily found all over the country in both grocery stores and wine shops with a moderate price point of around $15. The medium body and softer tannins will certainly please a variety of palates. Don’t let this throw off the big red drinkers out there. You know who you are! This is a wonderful red that will complement a myriad of recipes or be just right with a bite of chocolate later in the evening. Enjoy!
