Today’s project is a fairy house but not just any fairy house. It’s a birthday fairy house!
Everyone knows that fairies like things that sparkle, so get ready to shine! This project takes a little effort but the end result is so sweet and pretty. These houses are made from paper mache and can be painted, papered, glittered and adorned for so many occasions. These would be such a beautiful addition to Christmas villages or Halloween windows. Painted red for Valentine’s Day filled with chocolates. Next to Easter baskets filled with eggs. Add small gifts and candy for birthdays. So many possibilities.
To begin, set out craft or newspaper to protect the workspace. This house was painted with shimmery white craft/acrylic paint. Use a sponge brush or small brush to get into corners and paint in sections if you want to glitter the house. Ultra fine glitter works best. Begin with the roof or the body of the house. Once one section or wall of the house is painted sprinkle the glitter over that section. Keep a clean piece of paper underneath to catch the excess glitter because it can be used over again until done. When every section is painted and glittered, leave to set and dry overnight. The paint, brushes and glitter can be found at most basic art and craft stores like Michael’s, Dick Blick and Hobby Lobby.
Now comes the fun part: decorating!! This is the time to bring out all your favorite bits and bobs. Stickers, die cuts, glue dots, ribbon roses, crystals and jewels, paper flowers, bows and lace trim. Sparkly pipe cleaners, pearls and pine cones. Pull it all out!
Due to a very special birthday girl who loves fairy houses, this was turned into a birthday house. Stock paper was cut to fit and sticker letters to spell out her name added. Tiny stickers and jewels were placed here and there along with some pop-up butterflies for whimsy! Because this little girl loves the color pink, ribbon roses were added and sheer pink ribbon and embroidery floss were tied around like a present. Add a few vintage velvet flowers and angels and it’s nearly perfect. Fill it with a few tiny gifts like a mini tiara and a bubble blower to complete the pink package!
