Known for their dramatic old vine reds, Bogle’s latest release is a blend of the essentials: Old Vine Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. This will become an “essential” in your wine rack!
On the nose there is immediate ripe super fruits: Big raspberry, blueberry and boysenberry. Almost like a fruit bar with preserves. There is just a little spice and smoke. Even just open it is fruit forward and jammy, and tastes both juicy and even chewy with those dark fruits. It is silky smooth on the palate and finishes with a touch of vanilla and spice.
Grown and bottled in California, Bogle is readily found around the country, even at some supermarkets. Priced around $10 is a steal! Just released in June, it was aged for 18 months in French and American oak. It’s a rich, lush red wine that is too good to be called a “table” wine but can be drunk over many kinds of meals and gatherings. Essential Red would pair nicely with a cheese plate, pasta, pizza, off the grill, and desserts. Stock up!
